Bubble tea, tea houses, Asian bakeries and dessert shops in this group are usually walk-in, counter-order businesses with a menu board overhead listing sweetness and ice levels you can adjust when ordering. Standard bubble tea customization includes sugar level (0-100%), ice level, and a choice of toppings like boba pearls, pudding or jelly, usually at a small extra charge. Asian bakeries sell items individually with tongs and a tray, cafeteria-style, rather than pre-boxed, and pastries are typically less sweet than Western bakery items. Lines build up quickly after school and in the evening, especially near colleges. Most of these businesses accept cards and mobile pay and skew younger in clientele and atmosphere.

Pasadena is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Pasadena is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

ID-Eclair — aka Patisserie Française by Romuald Guiot — is not playing fair. No wonder this place is viral. Incredible. Divine. Cuteeee café. A must stop for vegans and non vegans who think butter is a personality trait. Indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s connected to La Cave — same owner, same dangerously good energy. They’ve got breakfast, bites, and a never ending lineup of pastries that will have you questioning everything you thought you knew about French baking. The croissant? Light, crisp, flaky, melts in your mouth. Not overly sweet. Just… disrespectfully good. Dubai chocolate? Delicious but she’s rich rich. Sweet enough to put you in a sugar coma if you’re not prepared. Lemon loaf? Divine. No notes. Ordered the brie sandwich loaded with Rebel Cheese (yes, that Austin legend) plus vegan ham that gave serious bánh mì pâté vibes. Quick history moment because we’re cultured: French VIETNAMESE cuisine exists thanks to French colonization of Vietnam in the 19th century. That mashup gave us things like bánh mì with baguettes and pâté. So yeah, this sandwich having both energies? Makes sense and I’m especially here for it 🇻🇳 Cold brew was solid. Truly beautiful pastries and I appreciate they maintain a selection throughout the day. I went in the afternoon and there was plenty of selection. Will definitely be back to have with a coffee. I think if you're not vegan, you possibly would be able to detect a difference between a non-vegan pastry cream and this but not in a "tastes worse" way, just in a "tastes different" way. I did think the pistachio eclair was very sweet - not for me probably but the taste was very good. Public parking lot across the street and street parking available, all paid, so the usual for the area. I think the cost for what you get is very reasonable and a good value. I had a grilled cheese also here and it was good and extremely rich, with a variety of nondairy cheese in the stack. I took my items to go and the packaging for takeout felt quite premium.

This is one of my favorite bakeries I have ever been to, and I travel globally. The textures and flavors are completely perfected with literally everything. The chef is actually from France, and you would not even guess that everything is plant based. Some of my favorites are the quiche, the macaroons, the chocolate tarts, and the croissants, but honestly nothing misses here. They even make vegan versions of trending, pastries, like the realistic, fruit-shaped desserts, and Dubai chocolate. If I’m hungry, I usually get the pepperoni pizza focaccia, then follow it by a coffe and a chocolate macaron. I love that they have great savory and sweet pastries because you can get lunch and a dessert. Every time I am in the Pasadena area, I get multiple things so that they last me a couple days and they still taste just as great when I leave them in the fridge for a couple days.

I ordered a Black Forest cake for my birthday, and when I went to pick it up, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was. Even more impressive, it was beyond delicious! Everyone at the party loved it. Both my vegan and non-vegan friends kept going back for seconds and even thirds because it was just that good. They all mentioned how it wasn’t like those overly sweet cakes at all. It had the perfect balance. The chocolate cake, cherries, and cream tasted incredibly fresh and worked so well together. I will definitely keep buying cakes from here. It was truly beyond perfect. Thank you so much!

Phenomenal food! And all vegan! Finally made it in for lunch and had the mushroom soup, Black Forest sandwich, focaccia, and the grilled cheese. It was all fantastic, but want to highlight how amazing the grilled cheese is. This dish in particular was recommended by an omni friend who said it was the best grilled cheese they'd ever had, and I was admittedly skeptical. Boy was I wrong. Fantastic! Had pastries on a previous outing: raspberry croissant, chocolate croissant, pear chocolate danish, and some eclairs. The pear chocolate danish was to die for but I believe that was on special. The raspberry croissant is seemingly in regular rotation and highly recommended. This is the kind of place that could convert an omnivore: it's that's good. Bravo Chef Romy and the entire team over at ID-eclair.
